The Gynaecological Cancer Centre at the Royal Hospital for women is one of 6 major tertiary referrals units for gynaecological cancer in NSW. The Centre sees approximately 300 new cases of invasive gynaecological cancer per year. The Fellow will be part of a multidisciplinary team, which will include gynaecological medical and radiation oncologist, medical specialists, palliative care physicians, genetic counsellors, nurses and paramedical personal. The inpatients are nursed in a 25-bed ward, which includes patients with breast cancer and benign gynaecological problems.
About 40% of the patients come from rural NSW and the remainder from the metropolitan area. It is a multicultural group of patients. The doctor will be on the after- hours roster for oncology patients. There will always be a trainee and resident in O & G.
A Medicare Provider Number will be required. Specialist recognition will not be required.
The main objective of the Provisional Fellow role is to deliver exemplary care to patients with gynecological cancer within a multifaceted clinical setting. This position is designed to foster advanced professional growth and expertise, guiding the Provisional Fellow towards achieving the FRANZCOG credential, as well as additional subspecialty qualifications.
Provisional Fellows will acquire the necessary skills to assess, diagnose, treat, and oversee the care of patients with complex benign gynecological conditions or malignancies of the female reproductive system. Throughout their tenure, they will benefit from supervision by experienced senior medical professionals. This position is NOT for accredited trainees in the CGO program.
