A variety of advanced training positions are available for 2027 that will enable highly motivated individuals to gain great experience in tertiary level Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

(B) Advanced Trainee – Gynaecology (two positions)

(E) Advanced Trainee – Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (one position)

(F) Advanced Trainee – Academic (one position)

 

(A) Senior Registrar

  • Ideally suited to an advanced trainee who is keen to consolidate their clinical abilities as well as to increase their experience in a leadership role with key rostering, administrative and teaching responsibilities within the unit, specifically designed with the intention to assist with the transition to junior consultant.
  • In alignment with RANZCOG Advanced Training on the Generalist O&G ATP this role provides the opportunity to complete the:
    • Essential Obstetrics and Gynaecology Skills Advanced Training Module (ATM)
    • Generalist Obstetrics ATM
    • Generalist Gynaecology ATM
  • This role has been flexible over the previous years to suit the successful candidate’s expectations in terms of their clinical experiences and can include the opportunity to undertake Special Interest Modules (SIMs) in Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopy Surgery and/or Colposcopy and to be involved with our Fertility, Termination of Pregnancy, Urogynaecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) or Office Gynaecology services. 

 (B) Advanced Trainee – Gynaecology

  • Ideally suited to an advanced trainee looking to enhance their gynaecology surgical skills (with a focus on minimally invasive surgery) with the aim of becoming a Generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist or with the view to applying for an AGES fellowship.
  • In alignment with RANZCOG Advanced Training on the Generalist O&G ATP this role provides the opportunity to complete the:
    • Essential Obstetrics and Gynaecology Skills ATM
    • Generalist Obstetrics ATM
    • Generalist Gynaecology ATM
  • In addition, you will be expected to complete the Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery SIM and you may choose to undertake the Colposcopy SIM.

 (C) Advanced Trainee – Obstetrics

  • Ideally suited to an advanced trainee looking to increase their scope in managing complex obstetric patients, together with MFM, Endocrinology, Obstetric Medicine and Cardiology. Also suitable for an advanced trainee wanting to enhance their ultrasound skills with the goal of doing their Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) or pursuing subspeciality training in CMFM or COGU.
  • In alignment with RANZCOG Advanced Training on the Advanced Obstetric ATP this role provides the opportunity to complete the:
    • Essential Obstetrics and Gynaecology Skills ATM
    • Advanced Obstetric ATM

 (D) Advanced Trainee – Generalist/Special Interest  

  • Ideally suited to an advanced trainee either wanting to become a Generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the option of furthering their exposure, knowledge, and practice in various special interest areas
  • In alignment with RANZCOG Advanced Training on the Generalist O&G ATP this role provides the opportunity to complete the:
    • Essential Obstetrics and Gynaecology Skills ATM
    • Generalist Obstetrics ATM
    • Generalist Gynaecology ATM
  • This role will also have the option to undertake the Colposcopy SIM and to be involved with our Fertility, Termination of Pregnancy, Urogynaecology, MFM or Office Gynaecology services.  

 (E) Advanced Trainee – Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology  

  • The Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG) role is focused on providing paediatric and adolescent gynaecology services along with gaining tertiary obstetrics and gynaecology experience. This position is currently undertaken at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) and Queensland Children's Hospital in an established multidisciplinary team, allowing unique exposure to paediatric surgery and endocrinology not otherwise seen in O&G training.
  • In alignment with RANZCOG Advanced Training on the Generalist O&G ATP this role provides the opportunity to complete the:
    • Essential Obstetrics and Gynaecology Skills ATM
    • Generalist Obstetrics ATM
    • Generalist Gynaecology ATM

 

(F) Advanced Trainee – Academic

  • This is a unique opportunity offering a combined 0.5 FTE clinical role within the O&G Department and a 0.5 FTE academic role with the University of Queensland. The advanced trainee will have an integral role in the coordination and teaching of medical students in the O&G rotation and will have the opportunity to participate in a supervised research program.
  • In alignment with RANZCOG Advanced Training on the Generalist O&G ATP or Academic ATP the clinical role will provide significant exposure and logbook numbers toward completing the:
    • Essential Obstetrics and Gynaecology Skills ATM
    • Generalist Obstetrics ATM
    • Generalist Gynaecology ATM

 

All positions will include:

  • Protected research and education time as per RANZCOG hospital accreditation standards
  • Rostered time for participation in the administrative duties of the department
  • Coverage of the after-hours roster with paid overtime/penalty rates (weekends, evenings, nights and public holidays) to be shared amongst the advanced trainee group with consultant support. Providing a level of increasing independence as well as teaching opportunities of the junior medical staff in a supported environment to help with the transition to fellowship.
