About the Department
The Royal Women’s Hospital is the largest public provider of abortion care in Australia providing surgical and medical abortion within the legal frame work as described in Vic Abortion Law reform 2008. The Abortion and Contraception Service at the Women’s are structured to provide quality care to women by the most appropriately qualified clinician with the principles of patient centered care and informed choice at the center of all we do. This is a multidisciplinary team including nursing, medical and allied health staff.
About the Role
The Royal Women’s Hospital is the key site in Australia for advanced training in sexual and reproductive health. This fellowship is specifically designed to deliver all of the curriculum requirements for the RANZCOG Advanced Training Module or ATM in Contraception, Abortion and Sexual Health having run this ATM since its development in 2015.
Trainees will gain advanced skills in comprehensive provision of contraception, including complex medical care, adolescent consultations and perimenopausal contraception. In addition, trainees will become competent in medical and surgical abortion techniques across the first and second trimesters. Further exposure to and training in early pregnancy ultrasound and management of complications is provided with the ability to obtain the CCPU qualification. The position is ideal for those trainees wishing to provide high quality contraception and abortion care as part of their obstetrics and gynaecology consultant practice.
The rotation is for 6 months and comprises at least 2 contraception clinics, 3 operating lists per week plus additional family planning lists per week. Supervised Early Pregnancy Scanning sessions are available twice per week with additional time available for a research project. The fellow will work within a multidisciplinary team which is well known for its supportive collaboration, teaching and research.

The Classification and Salary scale will be dependent on experience and you will be appointed and in accordance to the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors in Training Agreement 2022-2026.
