Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Obstetricians to lead the O&G department within the Women’s and Children’s Division. 

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

 

About the Role:

The Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides strategic, clinical, academic and operational leadership for the OG services at Northern Health. This includes oversight of inpatient and outpatient care, labour ward governance, quality improvement, workforce planning, and alignment with statewide maternity safety and reform agendas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing visible clinical leadership that promotes a culture of safety, kindness and respect.
  • Ensuring high-quality, evidence-based obstetric care across the maternity service.
  • Leading and supporting obstetric medical staff, including consultants, registrars and junior doctors.
  • Working in close partnership with midwifery, neonatal, emergency and surgical teams to strengthen integrated models of care.
  • Overseeing activity, performance, and risk management within the O&G Unit.
  • Embedding continuous quality improvement, including guidelines, audits, morbidity/mortality review and incident response.
  • Support academic, research, education, training & supervision in the O&G Unit.
  • Contributing to strategic planning, service redesign and growth work as Northern Health expands to meet community needs.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA and Fellowship of RANZCOG.
  • Demonstrated senior clinical leadership experience in obstetrics.
  • Proven ability to build strong multidisciplinary relationships and foster an inclusive team culture.
  • A commitment to high-quality, evidence-based, culturally safe care for women and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in governance, clinical risk management, quality improvement and service development.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing trainees and early-career clinicians.
