Job Description
Purpose of the role
- Redlands Hospital is a moderate sized obstetrics and gynaecology service birthing approximately 1700 women per year.
- We are a cohesive and compassionate team of doctors led by Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) alongside a large midwifery and nursing group.
- You will have the opportunity to work in both general obstetrics and gynaecology and complete your RANZCOG generalist pathway for your advanced training. You will have the opportunity to manage simple and some complex obstetric patients, common gynaecological conditions and gynaecological emergencies.
- You will have the opportunity to attend and participate in obstetric clinics, perinatal mortality and morbidity meetings, and other multidisciplinary meetings.
- You will have access to generalist gynaecology clinics and colposcopy clinics, gynaecology mortality and morbidity meetings and access to at least one gynaecological operating session per week. This includes general gynaecological procedures, laparoscopic procedures and some vaginal surgery under supervision by FRANZCOG experienced clinicians.
- You will have the opportunity for leadership/mentorship role within the junior medical officer cohort, participate in the organising and scheduling of the fortnightly registrar education sessions and engage in in-house audits and research activities.
Your key responsibilities
- You will fulfil the accountabilities and responsibilities of this role in accordance with Metro South’s purpose and objectives.
- You will provide high quality care to your patients under supervision of the SMO.
- This will include admission of patients to the O&G department, review of patients in the emergency department, review of patients in the outpatient clinics, review and management of patients admitted to the ward and working in the operating theatre.
- Patient documentation is to always comply with the “Medical Documentation Policy”.
- You will initiate investigations and treatment as appropriate for each patient in collaboration and consultation with the SMO responsible for the patient/clinical space.
- You will provide guidance, support and supervise the junior medical and midwifery staff members, wherever clinically appropriate, when providing care to the patients.
- You will work alongside the midwifery, allied health and nursing staff and respond to requests for patient reviews and management accordingly.
- You will participate in registrar education sessions, multidisciplinary and other clinical meetings.
- You will participate in safety and quality assurance activities including audits and research opportunities.
- You will follow-up and review tests results and other administrative tasks generated from patient care and discuss them with your SMO accordingly to initiate an appropriate action plan.

Mandatory qualifications, professional registration, and other requirements
Are you the right person for the job?
- Completed all requirements of basic training and are commencing on the generalist O&G Advanced Training Pathway (ATP) with RANZCOG
- Well versed in the requirements of the RANZCOG generalist O&G ATP
- Up to date with mandatory courses such as FSEP, PROMPT, etc.
- Previous publications or research in obstetrics and gynaecology
- Interest in education and research
- Interest in leadership and mentorship
