The Townsville hospital is a tertiary referral hospital with around 2600 births per year, serving a large geographical area from the Torres Strait down to Mackay, and West to Mount Isa. We have a busy Maternal Fetal Medicine training unit and a 2-year AGES advanced laparoscopy fellowship. There is a Urogynaecology service and a monthly Gynaecological Oncology service with visiting specialists from Brisbane.
These posts are suitable for advanced trainees wishing to complete a RANZCOG Generalist Obstetrics and Gynaecology Advanced Training Module (ATM) or an Essential O&G Skills ATM (for advanced trainees wishing to undertake subspecialty training). Additional Special Interest ATM modules offered at TUH include Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopic surgery, Colposcopy, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Medical Education.
Trainees at our facility will enjoy exposure to a wide range of pathologies and opportunities including an ever-expanding MFM service, high-risk obstetrics, ultrasound training, early pregnancy clinics, a Women’s Reproductive Health Service offering both medical and surgical pregnancy terminations and MVAC, First Nations’ women’s health issues, urogynaecology, urodynamics and perineal clinics, colposcopy training, outpatient hysteroscopy and LLETZ services, laparoscopic and obstetric simulation training and research opportunities. We offer a varied trainee education program and quality improvement activities including clinical audits, clinical incident reviews and perinatal, maternal and gynaecology M&M meetings.
