Job Description

The Team:

  • The role is part of the Launceston General Hospital which is Tasmania’s second largest hospital.
  • Our level 5 unit has approximately 1600 births per year. There is a neonatal unit providing care from 32 weeks gestation. The unit enjoys a collaborative relationship between midwifery and obstetric staff with several models of midwifery care being offered as well as care of high risk pregnancies by the obstetric staff.
  • Comprehensive gynaecological services are provided by the unit. Up to level 6 laparoscopy is offered as well as hysteroscopic procedures, urogynecological procedures at a generalist level, and more traditional open and vaginal surgery.

The Role:

  • Provide high quality day-to-day medical services in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department within Women's and Children's Services (WACS) at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH).
  • These positions are suitable for advanced trainees, unaccredited registrars or SIMGs. Candidates wishing to enter RANZCOG ITP must apply via RANZCOG and to the Royal Hobart Accredited trainee advertisement. 

You will need:

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Provide day-to-day clinical management of Obstetrics and Gynaecology patients at the LGH.
  • Under the direction of a relevant specialist consultant, participate in private operative procedures for gynaecology patients.
  • Under the direction of a relevant specialist consultant, participate in inpatient and postoperative care of private gynaecology patients at Calvary Healthcare (St Vincent’s).
  • Supervise and teach junior medical staff and medical students attached to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department.
  • Participate in relevant postgraduate educational activities.

Details of appointment:

  • Fixed term full time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 18 May 2026 until 31 January 2027.
  • You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata.

Salary:

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $134,930 - $189,005 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
