About the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Logan Hospital Gynaecology We provide general gynaecological services for women, with a focus on management of menstrual disorders, contraceptive services, family advisory services, reproductive endocrinology including ovulation disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction and female incontinence of urine, management of menopause, plus a number of other acute and chronic gynaecological disorders. Our outpatient gynaecology service provides specialist care for women with: menstrual and other gynaecological bleeding disorders, endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor problems (pelvic organ prolapse), urinary Incontinence, infertility assessment and initial treatment, sexual dysfunction, and menopausal symptoms. Logan Hospital has an experienced team of gynaecologists who offer advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures, pelvic reconstructive work, minimal access urological procedures and vaginal surgery. This service is for young women from 13 years to 19 years of age with gynaecological problems. We also provide colposcopy services, which is an individualised specialist service for women with pap smear abnormalities. We have a dedicated clinic that is assigned to colposcopic assessment, cervical biopsy and post-treatment follow up care. Maternity We provide high quality maternity services for women across our region, with a focus on ensuring the very best care and experience for the patient and their family. Our aim is to ensure the birthing experience is centered around the patients choices, and that they are given information to assist to make choices which are based on the most up to date evidence and made by informed consent. Our post-natal environment is aimed at supporting parents to build their confidence in how best to care for their newborn baby. Logan Hospital has birthing suites with individual ensuites. We support women in their birthing choices and facilitate active labour, by encouraging mobilisation, and maintenance of normality, by having dimmed lighting and music available. We have showers available in all birth suite rooms, and we are looking forward to introducing birthing pools in our refurbished unit. We have 24/7 obstetric and paediatric support and a Special Care Nursery. A birthing suite lounge with tea and coffee making facilities is available for support people to have a short break during labour. Food is available at cafes on the second floor of the hospital or at the nearby shops. Logan Maternity refurbishment Our family is growing. We're building a bigger, better Logan Maternity for our community. We've opened our new Maternity Inpatient Unit, and construction will shortly commence on our new Birthing Suites. We understand that the journey to parenthood is one of the most important times in someone’s life. That's why the new Logan Maternity will offer: ·         modern facilities that support leading models of care ·         greater birthing choices ·         improved privacy ·         improved access ·         birthing pools ·         dedicated facilities for families, partners and carers. The $18.875 million project will expand our maternity inpatient unit, birthing suites and special care nursery, to provide contemporary maternity care for our local community, close to home. Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We have grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 485-bed1 hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region. We provide acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, cardiology, orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. Logan Hospital is a ‘digital hospital’ with a fully integrated electronic medical record, supporting improvements to the quality and efficiency of healthcare services for patients and the community. We also operate the second busiest emergency department in the state.  A major expansion of Logan Hospital is underway to provide new beds and treatment spaces to provide more healthcare services for the local community. The work includes: a new general medical ward with 28 beds (opened in February 2020) a new Mental Health Lounge in the Emergency Department (opened in March 2020) a major expansion of the main hospital providing 206 additional beds and treatment spaces across four new floors a refurbishment of the hospital’s maternity and neonatal services a new multi-level car park for staff, patients and visitors. As a teaching hospital, we help train future health care professionals and participate in research through strong partnerships with Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions.
