About New Medical Education Pty Ltd

NewMed is a private company with its raison d’etre being to establish a new medical school, enrolling domestic students. NewMed seeks to provide more doctors for Australia, particularly in regional and rural areas, and in general practice, noting that its graduates could follow any field.

NewMed is well advanced with its MD program development and underway with the regulatory processes. These include TEQSA registration and accreditation as a University College and AMC accreditation as a medical school. However, NewMed cannot be a medical school without these approvals. Once approval is achieved, NewMed plans to commence in 2026.

This medical school will be geographically distributed. This means students can stay at home, including in regional, rural and remote areas. Teaching will be online with small groups of 10, using interactive IT; there will face-to-face clinical skills weeks. Clinical experience for the first three years will be in primary care with GPs, who will be actively supported. The final (4th) year will be in hospitals and include an elective term. 
The foundation cohort size planned is 95, including 5 full scholarships.
Led by CEO and Dean Professor Stephen Tobin, there are senior well-known faculty within a team currently of about 20, reporting to an active Academic Board. NewMed wants excellence in its team!
