Clinical Director and Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Obstetrics and Gynaecology; two roles)

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is looking for a permanent or temporary part-time Specialist to act as the clinical and operational leader for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as part of Women’s and Newborn Services. This leadership position is available for up to 5 years (as 3 years temporary, with option to extend) and includes a requirement to provide clinical care services. The Clinical Director provides, in cooperation with other professionals, clinical care of obstetrics and gynaecological patients referred for investigation and management. It also provides professional advice and support as appropriate to both staff and local clinicians external to the organisation. About the Role (full time and part time) Provide expert clinical leadership, establish and provide sound clinical governance systems for Women’s and Newborn Services (WNS). Participate in the provision of clinical care (including on call, after hours and weekend) in conjunction with management of the O&G group. Provide leadership for the staff in obstetrics and gynaecology to ensure a collegiate and patient centred approach to the provision of services. Oversee the clinical rosters including senior medical officers, visiting medical officers and monitor the rostering of registrars and principal house officers of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Leadership in the development of strategic and operational plans relating to the delivery of clinical services for all areas (in-patient/outpatient) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in meeting key service and performance measures, and conduct environmental scanning, review future trends, emerging technologies. Contribute to the provision of multidisciplinary skills development which includes senior medical officers, registrars and principal house officers, resident medical officers and where required medical students. Townsville University Hospital The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is seeking a Staff Specialist to join an enthusiastic team of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists who are passionate about providing high quality health care to the women of North Queensland. The role of the Staff Specialist (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients and clients of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes teaching the health professionals of the future as well as research. You will lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standard of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the THHS and Queensland Health (QH) policies, in a hospital, community and outreach setting. The role contains an Obstetrics and Gynaecology caseload and will suit a specialist wishing to: Work collaboratively with other specialists and health professionals involved in the delivery of maternity and gynaecology care. Provide supportive leadership to a team of junior doctors who work within the service. Role requirements Qualified as a medical practitioner, qualifications in speciality areas and current registration/or eligible for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia. Advanced skills in laparoscopic surgery and/or an interest in gynaecological oncology are a bonus but not essential.
