Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is a central part of the Top End Health Service (TEHS) and is a dynamic and rewarding place to work.
The maternity service has a large catchment area across the Northern Territory providing tertiary level care and supporting rural birthing units in Gove and Katherine as well as midwives, nurses and GP’s throughout the Northern Territories remote communities.
The O&G department has both a strong focus on generalist O&G training as well as dedicated clinics for maternal fetal medicine presentations, gynaecology oncology, vulval disorders, urodynamics/pelvic floor surgery, pregnancy choices and a hospital supported homebirth program.
As a registrar starting out your O&G career you will have the opportunity to learn and develop your clinical skills in both obstetrics and gynaecology. Clinical duties include being primary registrar on birth suite, elective caesarean section lists, dedicated early pregnancy scanning as well as both antenatal and gynaecological clinics.
You will be working with clinicians who are passionate about delivering comprehensive care to aboriginal women, are engaged in public health and are advocates for women’s rights.
Your ongoing education and professional development will be supported through weekly training, a dedicated supervisor and we have affiliations with Charles Darwin University and the Menzies research institute to provide opportunities for building on your teaching and research experience and relationships with countries throughout the Pacific Islands for those who are interested in Global Health. Whilst Darwin delivers tertiary level care, we are a regional centre and as such value the importance of GP obstetric training and the vital role GPO’s play in delivering obstetric care across Australia. Many junior doctors have completed their DRANZCOG and advanced DRANZCOG qualifications during their time at Royal Darwin hospital and we continue to provide an excellent training and support program for those pursuing this option.
Darwin has an engaging social scene and welcoming community with local doctors participating in sports, performing arts, Yolngu language classes and much, much more!
