Cairns Hospital is pleased to accept applications for senior registrar positions for 2022.
Cairns is a busy O&G unit, with large exposure to both high risk obstetrics and complicated gynaecology. Senior registrars will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the unit, including pre pregnancy counselling, antenatal care, birth suite management, elective Caesarean section lists, day pregnancy cases, postnatal care, colposcopy and gynaecology clinics, and gynaecological surgery.
Registrars will also have the opportunity to be involved in more sub specialist management, with attendance at urogynaecology clinics and theatre, gynae-oncology videoconference case discussions and working with our obstetric medicine colleagues.
Cairns Hospital services a very large geographical area, from Innisfail south of Cairns up to the Torres Strait. 30% of antenatal patients at Cairns Hospital identify as Indigenous. The unit provides an extensive outreach service to communities within the health service, as well as the Cape York area and the Torres Strait. Registrars have the opportunity to participate in outreach clinics to communities as far away as Cooktown, Weipa and Thursday Island.
Our unit is a friendly and supportive training site, and provides an excellent grounding in general O&G prior to the consultant years.
