Staff Specialist/Director in Maternity and Gynaecology

The Maitland Hospital, Lower Hunter Valley Region, NSW

Permanent 1.2 FTE & Temporary 1.0 FTE - multiple roles available

An exciting opportunity exists for experienced consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join The Maitland Hospital Maternity and Gynaecology department (M&G).

The Maitland Hospital is currently redeveloping with a BRAND NEW hospital to be commissioned in 2022 – this is a chance to be actively involved in the planning and transition to our new location.

Our service has been caring and supporting women, mothers and babies in the region since 1903 and are committed to providing culturally appropriate and sensitive care. We acknowledge and embrace the diversity of modern family structures and we have around 1500 babies born at The Maitland Hospital each year.

Our hospital as a whole offers a comprehensive range of services to not only Maitland but the whole of the Lower Hunter Region. With services including maternity, medical and rehabilitation, surgical and day surgery. We have a busy emergency department and an adult intensive care unit as well as mental health, dental, renal diagnostic services onsite and are located 25 minutes from John Hunter Hospital.  

Our ideal candidates:

  • Will be Senior Medical Officers with current authority to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) along with Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists State Award.
  • Will be patient focused, passionate, enthusiastic, innovative and optimistic
  • Will have a driving force will be to deliver the best possible care to your patients, now and into the future.
  • Will pride yourself on your ability to communicate, with respect, to people from all backgrounds
  • Will have a true commitment to, and vision for, the future of maternity and gynaecological services in our region
  • Always be looking at how we can improve what we do
  • Will be actively involved in the transition to the new hospital
  • If you are a Director you will be able to provide strategic leadership and planning to M&G services within The Maitland Hospital in collaboration with the Nurse/Midwife Manager for Women’s and Children’s Services.
