Expression of Interest: Clinical and Research Gynaecological Oncology Unaccredited Fellow Position

This role would be ideally suited to a 6th year+ trainee who plans to apply for CGO training subsequently. RANZCOG ATMs should be completed prior to commencement of this position (role does not earn RANZCOG advanced training modules).
About the Opportunity:
The Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer (QCGC) Research is recognised as one of the top ten gynaecological cancer research units globally. It operates successfully at the interfaces between clinical practice, clinical and molecular research. QCGC operates from 3 public hospitals and from several private hospitals in and around Brisbane.
This new role will leverage clinical relationships between QCGC-affiliated hospitals (including RBWH, Mater) and its CGOs; academic relationships with the University of Queensland; and in Prof Obermair’s clinical practice.
This role offers opportunities for:
· Research mentoring
· Private assisting in gynae oncology and complex general gynaecology cases
· Get to know a gynaecological oncology environment
· Participation in journal clubs and MDTs
It guarantees research opportunities, tutoring/mentoring but not research output, which will co-depend on the person filling the role. It also guarantees exposure to clinical assessment and decision making, complex surgery and experience in managing challenging post-operative episodes.
Role Components
1. Research Fellow (0.6 FTE)
Part-time role, 12 months. You will join the QCGC Research team and contribute to studies in vulvar, endometrial and cervical cancer. Areas of focus include clinical trials, clinical outcomes and PROMs research as well as biomarker studies.
Training will be provided in research methodology and scientific writing with the expectation that you will complete at least one original publication as first author and develop skills in critical appraisal.
2. Surgical Assistant to Professor Obermair (0.4FTE)
The clinical component includes assisting in operating theatres at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital (Spring Hill, Brisbane) and supporting consulting sessions in rooms. Participation in MDTs and journal clubs is expected. You need to provide your own medical indemnity insurance.
Remuneration:
1. Employment through the University of Queensland (~$60K p.a. + Super) as casual research assistant (remuneration depends on qualifications).
2. Surgical assistance fees, billed through rooms ($100K + p.a.)
3. Contract work (casual) in rooms Prof Obermair (~$20K + Super)
