About our team/Mō te tīma

The Section is one of three departments/sections in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the University of Otago, the other two being in Christchurch and Wellington.

Our reputation in clinical practice attracts referrals from around the South Island of New Zealand, and provides an excellent base for teaching in obstetrics, gynaecology and women's health.

Our major teaching responsibility is the MB ChB course. We have a comprehensive registrar training programme directed towards specialist qualifications. We also convene the Postgraduate Diploma of Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology, and Certificate in Women's Health, which are particularly suitable for GPs, midwives and other primary care practitioners. Our lecturers also contribute to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Pharmacy, and Midwifery Degree programmes as well as other postgraduate courses.

The role/Te mahi

The Dunedin School of Medicine seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a clinical academic to establish themselves in one of the leading medical schools in Australasia. The appointee will provide leadership in teaching and research in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

If you are a medical doctor or a nursing professional (nurse, nurse practitioner, or midwife with experience in obstetrics, gynaecology, and women’s health), this position offers an opportunity to expand your teaching and academic skills while supporting the education of the next generation of doctors. There will also be significant opportunities for clinically-based research and collaboration with researchers in the University's well-regarded medical and biomedical sciences departments.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

The successful applicant will hold a professional qualification and preferably also a higher research degree.

You will be a registered health professional and will demonstrate:

  • A track record or potential for internationally peer-reviewed research
  • Teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Ability to provide specialised patient care in the area of pregnancy and/or gynaecology and/or Women's health
  • A collegial approach
  • Understanding of the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the University's Māori and Pacific Strategic Frameworks.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE), permanent position based in Dunedin. The appointment range per annum (pro-rata) for this appointment is:

  • Lecturer - $92,028 to $112,514
  • Senior Lecturer - $138,548 to $172,693
